Somewhere there, in the midst of making all those moulded bowls you see on that page, someone (actually, Winnie Pelz, the then chairperson of the Jam Factory board) brought into my studio a big bag of chook feathers. She said her rooster had been named 'Chanteclaire'. I felt honoured to make something of Chanteclaire's life, so started to attach bits of him to bowls.

(this series of bowls was in part inspired by the basket-work of the North American Indians. This piece was hand-formed in six panels and hand-sewn. Brass ferrules are hand made).

(This is a large piece formed over a hand made wooden “last” (form). Triple-layered, it required six lastings for top and base sections to be formed, then hand stitched together)
